Rarely does someone have a pretty nose. People either have noticeable noses that take away from the rest of their face’s pretty features like eyes and lips, or they have an unremarkable nose. Dr. Lindsey’s philosophy is simply to make a noticeable nose less noticeable. That is far better than trying to put a celebrity nose on someone who looks nothing like that celebrity.
In specific terms, if you have an ill-defined tip, or a large hump on the nose, Dr. Lindsey will use computer simulation as a guideline for surgical goals, and preoperative discussion. Then under general anesthesia, performed at an accredited surgical center with anesthesiologists, an open rhinoplasty is done, typically in about an hour and fifteen minutes with a nose that has not previously undergone surgery. Dr. Lindsey does not pack the nose, but a splint is worn for about a week. The change in the profile is evident the day the splint comes off, but tip swelling and “shrink-wrapping” of the skin to the new, smaller nose structure typically takes a bit longer. Most people have a pretty swollen tip for about 2 weeks, then it looks swollen to them, not others, for a few more weeks. At 4 months, typically the nose looks fairly close to its final result. Postoperative rhinoplasty pain varies. Females of all ages rarely need more than 2 or 3 pain pills total. Males of all ages need more. Just a fact. Twenty-three years of doing this surgery, this trend has not changed.
